possible bug / No limit AI / 3000 enemies!!!????
« on: April 20, 2009, 01:44:18 AM »
When playing the last level of v1.2 and had taken over all but 4 asteroids in the system and when i sent scouts to those last four asteroids i found 2 opposing factions; green and dark blue. I was shocked when i saw that blue had an asteroid with 1200 seeds on it and another with 600 while green had two with 400. I wrote off the huge numbers as maybe being a result of them pulling their seeds back as i had conquered that asteroid belt. Green was easy enough to take out and so was the blue asteroid which had gone up to 800 seeds at the time. This is where i really had a wake up call; there were now over 2000 enemies on one blue asteroid and it kept on growing!
I decided to just try to take out blues massive force but by the time i had enough seeds to make even a dent in its arsenal the number had gone up to 3000!!! After sending in close to 2000 seeds ( my laptop running vista with 3g ram was spazzing out by this point) i was only able to get that number down to 2000 or so... theres an image of the aftermath attatched to the post FYI...

Now here is my question (sorry for the obnoxiously long story but i found it pretty funny and it adds context): does the AI have any sort of limit like the human player does with the 32 seeds from one planet? and if so how the hell did it manage to keep building up seeds when i clearly had control of all the asteroids but that one?
im sure this has something that has to do with the temporary AI in the game (Ex. moving seeds around and performing chinese fire drills with the opponents would be difficult or consume computer power so they have no cap)

btw i love the game and i cant wait for the next release and i hope to do some coding help within the mod community soon!!!

That sounds like the time limit on that level ran out. There's a limit to how long you have to finish that level and when it runs out the enemy starts spawning seedlings like crazy. I should really get it so that it sends them in to your asteroids as well, that'd make it more obvious. Yes, that sounds like a plan.

Yeah that is what I had in mind but we ran out of time. :-D This is on my list to fix.
I am amazed you were able to get this much done in the first place for the IGF build.

Oh my god, I fell off my chair laughing when seeing the picture the first time.
This is by far the most funny bug I've seen in Dyson so far.  ;D

It would have been funnier if the planet had 4 defense tree on it.

:-\ Came to forum to report about the same trouble , really annoying bug. The game looses sence quickly. I think 6th level is very easy and the result greatly depends on luck, whether you have enemies or not. If you don’t - you quickly get to some large asteroid where you grow seeds and then its done.. In case you have neighbours near by - then you ll loose time getting to "powerful" asteroid what leads to failure due to that feature. I like the game very much , but I think there is yet much to improve.

I had the same thing first time on that level. Had the asteroid surrounded with 500+ on each of the 4 close to it. They had about 6000 on their home. They were only attacking in 30-40 at a time tho so I left it on overnight hoping to see them at 100,000 by the morning lol.

Unfortunately I was overun at some point in the night and awoke to bitter defeat :(

Is there some way to waypoint seedlings from the back ends of the maps so your front lines are constantly bolstered?

I present to you all, a story in slides.

So, when I first encountered the giant world at the end of the belt, it had something like ~2- or 3- thousand seedlings on it.  Trying to amass troops, I quickly realized I could only get 500 seeds onto an asteroid at once, before my game started (seemingly) glitching. (I had tried getting a boatload all onto the two closest rocks, but they wouldn't go when I told them to; I figured it out eventually.)  Anyway, I determined I would need to attack from all four asteroids in range at once, with the maximum amount possible:

No such luck.  Either there were too many seedlings to coordinate, or there's a cap on how many incoming seedlings an asteroid can have; the flow of troops was limited to a trickle, and The enemy resurged anew with 3000+ hungry interstellar wasps.

I eventually noticed that the last asteroid (the 'lasteroid,' if you will) sent out something like 30 or 50 seeds to each of the four planets in range at regular intervals, and while I was amassing troops, their population slowly declined.  Here's what it ended up looking like:

It felt a little weird wiping them out when they had only a couple dudes left, but I didn't want another population explosion, and have to wait all over for them to decrease by attrition.

It did make me a little sad that you can't pack a whole unholy host of seedlings onto one little asteroid.  If I left 499 on one rock, and tried to send another full host of 500 in, only about 91 of them made it.
