Hud concepting
« on: September 30, 2015, 07:40:08 PM »
As part of opening up our dev, I'll post up a few things as we discuss them.

Right now, we're thinking about how to do the hud so Anthony has started working up concepts. We're thinking of using an in-game page system to let the player see their equipment, status, and collections. What you can see here is the first of the process, so it's quite text heavy.

I'll post up more images over the next few weeks and then a video of it working hopefully!

No image but we've started moving the new menu system into the game... late next week I should be able to post real images!

I keep thinking of what Andrea True said in 1976.

Lol! Worked some crazy crazy hours recently to get a one level demo together and completely forgot to post some images. Adding in some more UI changes at the moment but once the code builds properly I'll take a few screenies and upload, or a short video...

Hud which works on joypad, mouse and touch. This screen lets you select pickups, others will let you choose artifacts, seeds to plant, and aee you general status and collections. Still quite a bit left to do here and it's not the most exciting work, so I'll be very pleased when it's done.

After that, we have colony labels & info (which are really useful), fog of war, and 2 more parallax layers to add. They'll be more interesting :)

I'm at an Ethereum conference all next week (non-games) but will be back on it shortly afterwards.

Noticed Pivotal Tracker indicated a slowdown in "velocity". Hoped that was indicative of completion progress!

I do a lot of work in the blockchain world which has gone crazy so in November/December. I've not even had time for family let alone to get all my work done. I also just had a minor op and had to do a high level government presentation. Eufloria had to take a temporary back seat having had the front seat in Sept/Oct. Nature of part time indie dev unfortunately.

I hope the first use of another project of mine will be for the first buyers of Eufloria RPG, but more on that if the technical side works out (blockchain related).

You can get an idea of my interests on http://newretro.org and https://twitter.com/alex_amsel

I need to rethink everything I thought I knew about Bitcoins. How a "digital currency" can have a "physical coin" goes against my understanding of that currency.

As someone who nearly worked themselves to death, I say please take care of your health first, then your family, then all the rest of the stuff that doesn't really amount to much in the grand scheme of things. Of course that is something we all know but too often find difficult to put into practice.

On the positive side, I suppose being able to set your own priorities is one of the advantages of part-time indie dev.

Haha! The physical coin actually just has a hologram with a pub/priv keypair.

If Bitcoin hurts your head, try Ethereum. That's the technology I work with.

Got through the new artifact hud and data canister collectable hud. Adding a temporary help screen next and then preparing for some funky new rendering - more parallax layers and fog of war :)

Pivotal updated :)

It's not very pretty yet, but mini map is now available on the hud, as well as what collectable you have, seeds, etc. Oh yes, did I say we're going to have seed planting and gene stealing (shrink trees!)?
