Last seen movie
« on: May 11, 2009, 12:48:35 PM »
In this topic we want to talk about the last movie you recently saw in TV or in cinema.
Which film did you see, how do you like it and tell us something about it. Let's discuss a bit about it and have a nice movie chat.

However, DON'T SPOILER THE PLOT. This is the only thing you should have in mind.

Well then, I'll start:

I've watched The Pursuit of Happiness yesterday. It was shown in the german free TV for the first time and I am impressed. This is maybe the best movie with Will Smith.
Rating:  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Afterwards there was Bad Boys 2 on the same TV channel. It is almost as good as part 1 but way too long. However, Lawrences and Smiths crosstalk is always so fu**ing funny.
My rating:  ;D ;D ;D ;D :(

I watched Hardware, on DVD. It was hilarious, and quite bad, but also quite awesome in lots of ways. The plot is so basic, but the atmosphere is really great, and some of the characters are good too. The story doesn't really hold up to much scrutiny.

Movie... My last movie was.... huh... I don't remember. I'll edit this when I'll remember, which should be in a few minutes -.-

Edit: Oh ya. I think it was Canadian Bacon.

It's a pretty old movie but it's pretty awesome and funny. I recommend watching it as soon as you can.

The US economy is in a rut, and so is the president's approval rating. What we need is a good war, but the Russians aren't interested. Hey  how about that big polite country to the north? Niagara Fall Sheriff Bud B. Boomer takes this all a bit too seriously, though.

I'll give it 4.5/5 stars. It's pretty damn awesome.

Oh, the pursuit of happyness. Emphasize on the y. It was not bad. Though Saving Private Ryan was a good war movie. Better than Passchendaele. A lot.

Last movie I saw in the theater was Up. Wonderful film, much, much deeper than they made it out to be in the commercials.

I also saw most of "Con Air" on tv. Nothing to write home about, but still fun to watch though. Sometimes those are my favorite kinds of films though.

Also, I rented "Gran Torino" the other day. Another great film, I love everything with Clint Eastwood. Anyone here a fan of westerns? :D

I recently watched Cloverfield and Diary of the Dead, both lent to be by Rudolf.

Cloverfield: good fun, can't really say anything too bad about it, apart from I didn't really care about the characters much. Aimed at a younger audience than I, I feel.

Diary of the Dead: pretty terrible film. Awful script; a fairly directionless plot; rubbish characters; terrible acting. I like its low production values but it was way too cheesy and teenaged for me especially compared to the original trilogy. Again aimed at younger people I think.

Unfortunately most Europeans have to wait until september or october to watch Up!
This is normal with Pixar movies because they run better near christmas in Europe. In my opinion, Pixar should also do it like this in the US. The summer releases in the US are too early, the movies maybe would make better box office sales in fall.

But yeah, I'll go watch Up! too.

I watched Pleasantville last week, the tenth time I guess... Damn, I love this movie. I like the nice CGI color effects and the story is very good, though it is very calm. Btw. Tobey McGuire is 33 years old and still looks like a teenager. ;D And I like Jeff Daniels as an actor.

If you like Jeff Daniels as an actor, try "The Squid and the Whale" ... he does an awesome job at pissing you off.

Just saw that on my 3-week vacation in Hawaii. This movie is still "burned" into my mind.

For recent movies, tho, just saw "Star Trek", yesterday. I will have to say that I was VERY skeptical, being an avid Trekker, myself, and seeing the shambles they have made of most of the movies related to the Star Trek enterprise (now THAT was punny). My vote? Check it! They did a pretty decent job.

Yeah, I never liked any of the star trek spin offs, only ever enjoyed the original TV series and the movies. I guess it's for that reason I liked this new one too, seeing how it go's back to the original story (sorta).

Didn't blow me away though, to be honest. I have high hopes for the next one.

I hope, the next one will be directed by James Cameron or Christopher Nolan. They made some of the best sequels of all time. (T2, Alien 2 - Cameron; TDK - Nolan)  ;D

2012

Thats what I call a disaster movie!! Ok, the story is seedty as hell but hey, look at the world destruction which covers about 90 / 150 minutes. I cannot remember a movie which had so much destruction scenes. Most other disaster movies got 5-10 minutes of destruction and the rest of the movie is boring. Not 2012.
I actually did not expect more than what I've seen because I know Roland Emmerich movies do not have any logic or good story or what so ever... and I was not disappointed.

In my opinion this movie got the best and most mind-blowing catastrophic scenes ever made and the CGI was brilliant. However, these scenes cannot cover the insanly bad "characters are surviving everything in the last nanosecond"    dramaturgy and the particially bad acting. But hey, its Emmerich. What do you expect? :D

My rating:
6/10
