Worst Culinary Disaster
« on: July 29, 2009, 11:08:09 AM »
I am renowned in the office as being the worlds worst cook.
I have given myself food poisoning on at least 3 occasions in the last 8 months and once cooked falafel for 2 and a half hours accidentally.

Am I alone? Whats the worst situation you've found yourself in in the kitchen?

Well, at the moment it's pretty bad, because I haven't washed the dishes in a week or something. So there's dirty dishes by the sink, in front of the microwave, a couple in the sink, on the other side of the sink, and even as far as the cooker, and on the cooker too.

Generally I am okay at actually cooking. There are exceptions, there are always exceptions. When I was sick recently I tried cooking fresh vegetables and pasta, with pesto - you'd think it would be hard to cock that up but what I actually created didn't taste good at all.

I really screwed up some roti canai once too, never trying that again. And I tried to make a nice salmon dinner once with a posh avocado and cream sauce but I cooked it for too long and it went sour, and I had to remake the whole sauce. Also I tried to make dhal and didn't soak the lentils, so I had to boil them for ages and in the end they were still too hard so I gave up, but I was so upset that I couldn't bring myself to throw them away, and they went rotten in the pan after a day or two. That was an unfortunate occurrence.

I won't even bother attempting to cook. I'll be at a lot of funeral if I do.

I can make a pizza in my oven.

So, yeah, I cannot cook at all. :D
However, I tried already. I made a lasagna by recipe. This one ->

Believe it or not, it tasted fantastic.

I'm actually pretty capable as a cook, but I do remember a few screw-ups along the way.
The one that seems most disastrous in hindsight was attempting to cook risotto. I turned the hob up as high as it would go to heat the fat then left it for what turned out to be 10mins...
Suffice to say I spent a long time scrubbing that pan.

LOL, I had my fair share of kitchen disasters too.....and usually I don't even get to the actual cooking part. :D Hhow about pre-heating the oven with a plastic bowl left inside? Imagine the mess I discovered at the bottom of the oven when I was about to put the pizza in...and let's not even talk about the toxic fumes.  :o  Oh yeah, I also spilled an entire pan of hot oil over my hand once when I was about to fry an egg....I never hurt so much in my life before! Amazingly, the hand's skin completely healed up within a couple of weeks. :)

These days I'm sticking more to raw foods... ;D
