C++ Does anyone use it?
« on: December 07, 2011, 04:55:11 AM »
just wondering if anyone here uses C++ and what they think of it? i've been dabbling a little with programming most of my life, but i'm not sure if i'd ever make a programmer. i download code::blocks and did a little C++ using 3dbuzz tutorials, but i've quickly realised what i don't know would fill a warehouse.

C++ is awesome, except the class system, I'd rather prefer to have everything in one file, rather than a header file and then a class. The output/input is much easier in C++. But I wouldn't use C++ myself, too used to java ;P

I myself, as mentioned, use java. I started with LWJGL, the same thing Minecraft is created with, and I'm doing pretty good for now, latest addition is particles :D

A&R do. That's what they're using for the new version of Eufloria.

Yep, we had to switch to C++ to get the game onto PS3.

I personally hate it, it is way too bloated and bulky now, the template system is garbage, there are no default collections beyond arrays and the STL uses aforementioned garbage template system, it's not easy to do string manipulation, just everything is like ten times more difficult than it needs to be.

Once you're used to it it's okay though. Takes years.

Yeah you just have to keep plugging away at it and getting used to it. I expect books help; I never really used 'em myself. Probably why I make so many errors and am so slow.

well i have a stack of videos on C++, but i find it taxing on my brain - even though i find videos the easiest way to learn. i wonder do programmers, who get paid for programming, use C++ or is there no such thing as the no.1 language that is in use out there?

C++ is for pure power, Java has a lot of power, C# is a very easily learned combination between all the languages, Lua is very easy on your mind, 'cause it uses 'then' and 'or' instead or { and ||.

But in the end, no language is better than another. It just depends on what you want to use.
