Bug on capturing asteroids

I was exploring for more asteroids and I found the AI trying to take an uninhabited asteroid. They had one seedling too few though, and failed. But my scout seedling went straight in and took it. Is that supposed to happen? It kind of feels like the AI did all the work for me.

You take asteroids when the core energy is depleted (ie, reaches zero). The last seedling to do the damage gets the prize, too, so that's completely normal.
